Meet Joni Sweet
Joni Sweet is a seasoned writer, editor,
and content strategist. She brings an intense dedication to excellence and a deep well of journalistic experience when reporting stories for publications and crafting content for brands.
Joni’s writing style is approachable, vibrant, and compassionate.
“It’s simply a joy to read,”
says one editor.
Joni has deep expertise covering travel, health, and wellness.
This work has taken her all over the world—trekking with gorillas in Rwanda, floating in hot air balloons over the fairy chimneys of Cappadocia, soaking in the historic thermal baths of the Black Forest, and rafting down the Ganges.
National Geographic published her first travel guide, “48 HOURS: New York,” in multiple languages. Lonely Planet commissioned Joni to contribute to its hardbound book, “Wellness Escapes.”
Her travel writing has been featured in:
National Geographic
Lonely Planet
TIME
Forbes
Frommer’s
The Christian Science Monitor
Travel Weekly
TripSavvy
Real Simple
PlanetWare
…just to name a few!
Covering travel and wellness is only a chapter of Joni’s story, though.
writing branded stories for Fortune 10 companies.
creating SEO content that hits the top of Google search results.
ghost writing social media posts for executives at major financial firms.
writing critical product reviews that help people make smart purchases.
distilling complex medical and personal finance concepts into relatable stories.
creating and executing content marketing strategies for pharmaceutical companies.
shooting custom photography for stories on travel and products.
She has experience:
The more demanding the challenge,
the more Joni thrives.
Joni has held staff editor positions at publications around the world.
She worked as an editorial assistant at VegNews magazine in San Francisco after completing Ithaca College's award-winning journalism program.
She took her career to Indonesia to work at the Jakarta Globe, the country’s foremost English-language daily newspaper.
In just 13 months, she earned multiple promotions from copy editor to digital news editor and finally deputy editor of the international news and opinion departments—all while embarking on independent reporting adventures across Indonesia.
She moved to New York City (a dream!) to serve as editor of Where magazine, a prestigious city guide launched in 1938, along with its luxe counterpart, IN New York.
J.P. Morgan Chase, the biggest bank in America, recruited her to work as a content strategist for a Millennial-focused banking app, where she honed her skills in UX content and personal finance writing.
On a personal note…
Joni now enjoys the freedom and creative flexibility of freelancing from her home base in New York’s Hudson Valley, where she grew up. She loves biking the region’s scenic rail trails and exploring the historic river towns with her partner, Jorge Luis.
When she’s not traveling, Joni can be found practicing yoga, cooking vegetarian food, catching live music and comedy, and playing with her two tabby cats, Tofu and Tempeh.
